Gift Ideas For Crypto Fanatics! (Updated December 2020)

Most people when they think of crypto gifts, think of hardware wallets and actual coins. Unfortunately, those are either ill-advised or overdone gifts. In hopes of mixing it up a bit and adding a bit of spice into these decisions, here are a few unique and creative gift ideas for you to consider giving to any lover of digital assets.

A Custom Blockchain Domain!

Do you get nervous every time you have to input your BTC or ETH public address? Whether you are moving your crypto off-exchange or sending/receiving crypto between friends, it can be very nerve-wracking to double-check all of the 26+ digits you may or may not have copied and pasted correctly. With a blockchain domain from Unstoppable Domains, you can eliminate this problem entirely. Instead of seemingly random alphanumerical addresses, you can now have (and/or gift) a blockchain address that was created with the end recipient in mind! Personally, I have gifted specific addresses for my nieces and nephews so when I want to send them a few dollars in BTC for their 2nd birthday, I can simply type in “babyfartmachine.crypto” into my Coinbase wallet to send that $100 in BTC instead of whatever public address I would normally need to have.

Currently, Unstoppable Domain blockchain domains can receive over 40+ different types of crypto and are usable from over 20 different wallets. The most common and popular being Coinbase and Trust wallet.

An added feature of owning a blockchain domain is that owners can also leverage their domains to establish decentralized websites. Unlike traditional domains, blockchain domains are stored by the owner instead of by registrar companies like Godaddy. Decentralized websites are stored on p2p networks like IPFS, not cloud services like Amazon Web Services (AWS).

*Full disclosure, I do not in fact own “babyfartmachine.crypto and as of December 18th, 2020 that specific blockchain address is still available.*

Cold Storage Coin / Physical Crypto Coins for Public Addresses

An easy way to think of a cold storage coin is a physical coin that serves as a paper wallet that is far cooler and more functional than its paper counterpart. Real Crypto on Etsy is a seller that I have used and am a huge fan of. They produce physical coins in the spirit of whichever crypto is being represented and allow owners to imprint custom created QR codes that correspond with owned public addresses.

While they do offer the ability to secure private keys within the coin, I chose to print QR codes related to previously owned wallets (Trust wallet and MetaMask) to ensure that I could keep the private key information stored separately. This also means that if the physical coin is lost or misplaced, the private key information is stored separately and securely for future retrieval. Protective measures like this are essential ESPECIALLY if you are considering gifting these items to family or close friends.

Crypto Clothing and Gear!

Whether you work in a bank or in your home office, crypto clothing is a great way to show your pride! Cryptowardrobe has a fantastic selection of t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, hats, and socks and they also accept over 30 different types of cryptocurrencies.

Not only is Guy @ Coin Bureau one of my favorite YouTubers and newsletter creators, but he is also coming out with some surprisingly snazzy t-shirts as well! When it comes to t-shirts, I was particularly drawn to both Crypto Bae and Crypto King and have already laid hints for my wife to get me a pair.

So now, you can get a great gift for your crypto friend or family member and a gift for yourself can by signing up for his weekly newsletter updates here!

Another great gift idea was actually provided by Guy, Faraday bags!

Faraday bags are small, portable, affordable accessories that block electromagnetic fields. By storing your hardware wallet within a Faraday bag, you are able to not only able to capitalize on the security of a hardware wallet, but you are also able to protect your hardware wallet from EMP attacks.

Hardware Wallet Mounts!

Staying on the theme of protecting your hardware wallets, a hardware wallet mount is a fantastic way of keeping your Ledger or Trezor out of sight and out of others’ minds. CryptoCloaks is a 3D printing company that creates custom mounts and cases to protect and store our hardware wallets.

For only $13, you can get a mount that easily mounts with screws or tape to any surface you choose. Under a desk, on a wall, or anywhere you can think of! While the default color is black, they offer over 10 different possible colors to choose from.

CryptoCloaks also makes cases for Nodes. The Lightning Shell is a great example.

“The Lightning Shell is a powerhouse of customization to allow users to make their Bitcoin / Lightning Node look damn good while also allowing it performance enhancements. Change the colors, add a name to the front, make it yours!”

When purchasing cases like these, you will have the option to choose Accent Color, Raspberry Pi board type, LCD screen usage, and whether you want the top surface textured or smooth.

CryptoCloaks doesn’t stop at just mounts and cases, they also make very cool toys that fall under their “Fun Stuff” category. Some personal favorites of mine include the Bitcoin Grenade, Bitcoin Coasters, and their Bitcoin Spinner Ornament.

NFTs! Non-Fungible Tokens!

When it comes to giftable NFT’s the list is almost endless! We already mentioned blockchain domains but what about other NFT options?

For more background on what NFT’s are. check out this wiki link or watch this video on youtube.

NFT’s will be great gifts for usually the folks who are deepest into the decentralized world. I would caution against gifting an NFT rose to your girlfriend who is just now getting into Bitcoin and blockchain. For crypto newcomers, the only NFTs I would recommend are blockchain domains (as detailed above) but for super savvy gift recipients, NFT art and/or land is a fantastic gift idea!

Currently, the top NFT marketplaces are,

  1. OpenSea — “The world’s largest digital marketplace for crypto collectibles and non-fungible tokens (NFT’s), including ERC721 and ERC1155 assets. Buy, sell, and discover exclusive digital assets like Axies, ENS names, CryptoKitties, Decentraland, and more.”
  2. Decentraland — “Buy and sell LAND, Estates, Avatar wearables, and names in the Decentraland Marketplace: stocking the very best digital goods and paraphernalia backed by the Ethereum blockchain.”
  3. Super Rare — “SuperRare is a marketplace to collect and trade unique, single-edition digital artworks. Each artwork is authentically created by an artist in the network and tokenized as a crypto-collectible digital item that you can own and trade. You can think of SuperRare like Instagram meets Christie's. A new way to interact with art, culture, and collecting on the internet!”
  4. Rarible — “Rarible is a community-governed NFT marketplace where you can create, buy, and sell digital items on Ethereum.”
  5. Enjin Marketplace — With a focus on gamers and in-game usable items, Enjin’s marketplace has a focused and unique selection of NFTs with a high trading volume to match.

Hopefully, this list helped give you some fresh ideas about what you can gift that crypto fanatic in your family or circle of friends…or even yourself!

Let me know below if you think I missed any cool new products or ideas!
